So, Mom was telling me this story about something that happened at her church last week. There are some deaf people in the congregation, and one guy was getting up and moving from one table to another a few times during the sermon. She said each time he got up to move, he would drag his chair across the floor. Scrrrraaaaaaaaape! But he couldn't hear it, so he didn't know it was a disruption, and everybody else tried not to react or stare.
After a few times of the Scrrrraaaaaaaaape-ing, one of the other deaf men, who evidently could feel the vibration in the floor, got up and went to tell the first guy that he was making noise. He signed to him and the first guy didn't move his chair after that.
The irony that struck me was that, out of a whole congragation where the majority of the people can hear, it was a deaf guy telling another deaf guy he was making too much noise! |
