100 things
Thursday, Sept. 07, 2006 7:13 pm

I saw in someone else's diary that the 100 Things entries are supposed to be done when one has 100 entries. I didn't know that before, but this is my 50th entry since I put my diary back up in January of 2006 and I can’t wait until the 100th. I am, however, in the process of reposting my original entries here, and if I counted right, there were over 175 of them. That oughta count, right?

So, here is my list of 100 random facts from my life. I notice that there are several ironies in this list.

1. I have a lot of ironies in my life
2. Synchronistic things happen in my life a lot
3. I’ve been baptized three times
4. I have been in love twice
5. Both times, I fell in love before actually meeting in person (I met one online and one over the phone)
6. My parents have been married happily for 50 years, and it’s the only marriage for both of them
7. They met as pen-pals and corresponded for two years before they met in person
8. I lived in 6 states by the time I turned 7 (my dad was in the military)
9. I went to four schools by the time I finished the second grade
10. I’ve moved 19 times in my life
11. 11 of those times was since I’ve been an adult
12. I’ve lived at my current address for six years
13. Plus two more years in the same apartment complex but a different apartment
14. I’ve owned 8 cars since I was 18, which is 24 years as of the date this list is being posted
15. Some nights I dream that I discover I still own one of my older cars (usually it’s the 1978 Bobcat, which broke down a lot but was a fun car to drive when it ran)
16. I’ve had 16 jobs since I was 16, which is 26 years as of the date this is being posted
17. I’m at my current job 9 years
18. The second-longest job I had lasted for 6 years
19. Which appears to leave 14 jobs over the remaining 11 years, but I had some of those jobs simultaneously (working two jobs at one time was a pattern for me for many years), and many were temp jobs
20. I was gay until I was 39
21. I’m taller than every woman I’ve ever kissed
22. Of the 12 men I’ve kissed in my life, I’ve been taller than nine of them
23. Of my 8 male coworkers, I’m taller than only one
24. I remember learning how to tie my shoes
25. I don’t remember when I learned to shuffle cards and it feels like I always knew how
26. I’ve never learned how to play chess
27. I was good at archery in gym class in junior high school

36. My first brother-in-law took me to my 8th grade prom when my date cancelled at the last minute
37. There was nothing romantic between my first brother-in-law and me; he was like a big brother to me
38. He made a great big brother
39. He doesn’t have any siblings
40. My first memory is of watching my mother take homemade bread out of the oven
41. I have a bad reaction when I eat bread
42. I still have my old diaries from when I was a teenager
43. I no longer have my high school yearbooks or diploma
44. I can write backwards
45. I’m right-handed but I can write with my left hand
46. I can write the same thing backwards with my left hand and forwards with my right hand at the same time
47. I mouse left-handed because of a problem with my right thumb, and then discovered it’s more logical with the way the keyboard is set up (enter keys, number keypad, etc., are on the right)
48. I got my first VCR before I got my first color TV
49. I have 4 TV’s in a 2-bedroom apartment
50. I use them all
51. I only have a handful of TV shows that I watch on a regular basis

53. I don’t like to have the TV on while I sleep
54. I never took algebra in school
55. I kept repeating basic math
56. I actually “get” the mathematical formulas used in Excel and Access
57. The first thing I ever bought with a credit card was a coffee mug that said, “Frivolous”
58. I don’t know what ever happened to that mug
59. I was so excited the first time my mom let me shave my legs
60. Now I can’t wait to have laser hair removal and never have to shave my legs again

64. I miss lucid dreaming
65. I realized I loved writing when I was 8 years old
66. I wrote my first short-novel when I was about 13
67. I don’t have it anymore but I wish I did
68. It probably stank, but at the time my friends and I liked it
69. I used to pass it around and let some of the other kids in school read it
70. Even some of the “popular girls” who didn’t normally talk to me liked it
71. It was about a teenager who had a baby
72. I babysat a lot as a teenager and helped several babies through teething and potty-training
73. I never had any kids of my own
74. My prior attempt at a novel was when I was 12, and the story was about a young girl who joined a band and traveled around the country with them
75. She fell in love with a guy in the band
76. It didn’t work out for them
77. If NaNoWriMo had been around when I was a kid, I’d have been ecstatic
78. If someone had told me, when I was a kid, that the future held things like the Internet, online diaries, email, and cell phones, I’d have been ecstatic
79. In spite of all the joy modern technology brings me, sometimes I’m still wistful for the way things were when I was a kid

92. My 9th grade English teacher told us on the first day of class that if we only learned one thing in his class, it would be the 8 parts of speech and their meanings
93. All these years later, I can still name 6, but I always forget conjunctions and interjections until I look it up
94. I think unsweetened iced tea “tastes” colder than sweetened iced tea, but the ice seems to melt faster in unsweetened tea
95. I prefer unsweetened iced tea
96. I am amazed at how hard it is to order unsweetened iced tea at a drive-through and have them get it right
97. When I turned 25, I thought that was the perfect age, because I was old enough to be taken seriously but still young enough to “get away with shit”
98. I used to pass out when I had to have blood drawn, but I stopped doing that a few years ago by always asking them to use a butterfly needle and use a vein in my wrist
99. Otherwise, they always stick me several times before they get a good vein, and the drawing-out of the process gives me too much time to think about it, which causes the passing-out
100. I love to swim naked
